Deadlines are no excuse! The reading must go on…

Books I Own

Priority Books in My TBR Pile
Priority Books in My TBR Pile

These are books on my TBR pile that I am getting to soon, damn it. Seriously, I pinkie swear. I’m excited about them, but I haven’t had a chance to read them yet for one reason or another. Mostly because I am currently trying to plow through a considerable pile of what I consider “expendable” paperbacks (i.e., books I will probably only read once) so I can pass them on to someone else or put them in storage.

Cold Days by Jim Butcher
Cold Days by Jim Butcher

Jim Butcher gives me ALL THE FEELS. The Dresden Files is one of my favorite series, but I still haven’t had a chance to get to this one yet. You have no idea how much that hurts me. Wounds me deeply. THE SUFFERING I FEEL BECAUSE I HAVE TOO MANY BOOKS TO READ AND DEADLINES AND WHATNOT. Ahem. #FirstWorldProblems

Into the Woods by Kim Harrison
Into the Woods by Kim Harrison

Like the Dresden Files, the Hollows series is a favorite. Anything with Kim Harrison’s name on it is an auto-buy for me. This collection of short stories makes me all tingly at the thought of reading.

Carniepunk
Carniepunk

CARNIEPUNK is an anthology full of dark, chewy goodness by authors I know and adore. With names like Allison Pang, Nicole Peeler, Delilah Dawson and Mark Henry attached to this, I was sold the minute I heard about it. I feel singularly fortunate that a good friend of mine was at a signing and got signatures from a bunch of the authors for my copy. Now I need to check out where I can find the rest of the contributors so I can stalk them hunt them down tie them up in my basement get a complete set of autographs on this puppy!

Kitty's House of Horrors by Carrie Vaughn
Kitty’s House of Horrors by Carrie Vaughn

I devoured the first few Kitty Norville novels over a period of a few weeks, and have had to force myself to take a break from the series to get through some of the other books that have been languishing on my TBR even longer. This one is the 7th. I’ll get back to Kitty soon, and I very much look forward to devouring the rest of the books in the series.

Shambling Guide to New York City by Mur Lafferty
Shambling Guide to New York City by Mur Lafferty

Mur Lafferty has been on my radar for a good, long while. She interviewed me some time ago for her podcast. I actually own a few other books she’s written, but never managed to get around to them. Probably since I bought them as ebooks instead of paperbacks. This time, I swear I’m going to read it.

This Book Is Full of Spiders by David Wong
This Book Is Full of Spiders by David Wong

If you haven’t read JOHN DIES AT THE END yet, you need to get on that. Seriously, go read my review. Right now. I’m waiting. GO DO IT. If that doesn’t sell you (or send you running screaming in the other direction), I don’t know what will–but I do know that I’m going to relish digging in to the sequel. Oh, yes.

Books I Don’t Own Yet, But Am Looking Forward To

World After by Susan Ee
World After by Susan Ee

If you haven’t read ANGELFALL by Susan Ee, HIE THEE TO THE BOOKSTORE. It was one of the best reads (maybe THE best) I’ve picked up all year (or maybe that was last year, whatever, just go with it). I can’t wait to get my hands on the sequel, WORLD AFTER, due November 19, 2013 (excerpt here). I haven’t been this excited about a sequel since Karen Marie Moning’s SHADOWFEVER. You can bet your buns I’ll be dropping everything and calling in a sick day when this book comes out.

All The Truth That's In Me by Julie Berry
All The Truth That’s In Me by Julie Berry

I saw a review from this on Cuddlebuggery. All she had to do was mention Atwood and I was sold. I had never heard of Julie Berry or ALL THE TRUTH THAT’S IN ME before now, probably because I am not usually a fan of YA and don’t go out of my way to read them. (Why do I read the reviews on Cuddlebuggery, you may ask? Because reasons, that’s why. Also, Kat’s posts are hilarious and her blog is a good place to get snarky but not mean-spirited publishing industry news.) This sounds like the kind of book I could disappear into for a few hours.

Charming by Elliott James
Charming by Elliott James

I spotted this one via the giveaway over at All Things Urban Fantasy. I think it looks like an interesting read, but the price has me a bit leery. Keeping an eye out for reviews of this one to see if it’s worth the price tag (at the time I looked it up, it was over $10 for the paperback and almost $9 for the ebook).
